Hmm, I only speak English but I can read schematics and do math so that's all that counts!

Tagalog Language... There are many varients of the Tagalog language, usually varies province to province, compared to Manila-born Tagalog speakers.

Written Tagalog: More than 90% comprehension.
Spoken Tagalog: More than 95% comprehension. I use my "Best Guess" method from Spanish, my 2nd language.
Written Shorthand Tagalog: That hard... I have to ask my wife on those words.
Spoken "Deep" Tagalog: Words specific to province, or pronounced differently, my comprehension is less than 20%.

I'm half Filipino and half American. My Filipino father is from Binan, Laguna, and never taught me Tagalog when I was growing up in the United States. I have been here, in (Pasig City) Metro Manila, Philippines, since October 2006, and many people ask me why I don't speak Tagalog. My typical answer is, "I'm more business oriented, so therefore, I perfer speaking in English when conducting business."

Even though I'm living in the Philippines, I find no reason for speaking in Tagalog. I recommend Filipinos to speak English to me, giving them a chance to practice their English. Most Filipino students here have dreams of going to a English-speaking country, such as United States or United Kingdom, so I encourage them to speak English to me.

Last year, I helped the Girl Scouts of the Philippines with an Amateur Radio "JOTA" project. Out of a group of 14 girls, only one failed to speak English to me; she could only speak Tagalog to me. Many of those girls brought their English textbooks with them, too. When I spoke about Amateur Radio, I spoke in English, not Tagalog.

Whenever I visit Alexan store in SM Megamall and I meet Filipino students, I speak to them in English about their school electronics project. Only about 9 out of 10 students speak back to me in English, but only 3 out of 10 can explain their project, to me, in English.

My telephone number is posted online for people to call me, not text me. I understand there are many Filipinos that want to practice their English and I also understand that many Filipinos have the same technical interests as me. I encourage Filipinos to call me, so I can hear them speak English. I do have my dictionaries available for those Tagalog words that the other person doesn't know the English equivalent for, and I do have my wife to translate words not found in dictionary.

Even though most of the posters in this forum, are posting in Tagalog, they should post in English. Why? Many English-speaking companies in English-speaking countries are able to view posts in this forum, but are quickly turned off when they can't understand Tagalog. Most of the time, they will not seek translations and move onto sites that post in English. For example, there are many India-based websites that are posting in English. Also, my English-speaking friends in America won't have interest visiting this forum.

Recommendation to Site Administrators: Add a Translator Function, to use either Yahoo or Google or other translation service. That will satisfy the fact that not every Filipino speaks Tagalog.

Believe it or not, many Southeast Asians find my English more understandable, though my English grades in school were "below average." I learned Spanish as my 2nd language, which my grades were above average.
