just like me!
I was brought up in a microsoft world: first in MSDOS, then Windows 3.1, and then Win95/98.
All through my student life I thought PC equates to microsoft and nothing else.

I read about unix but i thought it is only for mainframes and supercomputers.

my outlook change when I chance upon an article in Inq7.net in 2001.
The news was about IBM and Linux as an alternative and free operating system.
I researched about Linux in altavista, in yahoo, and then in google.

I realized that i was living in ignorance on alternative technologies.
But i didn't remain ignorant for long.

It is best to have an open mind.  These open-source alternatives are technologies and their applications are wide ranging.
It is to your detriment if you ignore open-source and remain oblivious on how those can be your effective tools.

As for many of us here, we chose to learn every interesting technologies that come our way, be it from microsoft or from anywhere else.
This allowed us to approach any problem from any angle.
Sometimes you need to think outside the (microsoft) box.

I stongly disagree with these, we also talk about legal issues here hindi purket merong crack sa net ay yun na ang gagamitin mo, we should open up our minds with alternative technologies and some open source softwares are even better than boutique softwares

@maximus,

think like this:

try to make a software in which you developed for 2-3years.. and yet you are about to sell it.. bu then right after hitting the market.. someone who made a cracked for it, and ended up your software to be used for free..

what would you feel about it?=)

seriously, you may try to do that in a corporate environment.

I always avoid using "pirated" and "cracked" softwares for productivity needs, dahil pagdating sa corporate/commercial environment, may possibility na limited mo lang siya magagamit.

tamad maghanap? mas masipag pa 'yung ibang mga gumagamit ng open source softwares dahil minsan sila mismo 'yung magbi-build ng application, kukuha ng dependencies, etc. it's a lot more time consuming than just searching for a patch.

Wink

'di naman binabalita 'yang mga pinagmumulta. for the media people, it's not news worthy. pero maririnig mo 'yan sa loob ng industry circle.

lumipat ako ng msoffice kasi dati nagkaproblema ako sa compatibility nung document na ginawa ko. ang ayos ng formatting sa Openoffice... nung save as .doc, tinignan ko sa Microsoft Word Viewer (yung free from microsoft), sabit ang formatting... eh resume ko pa naman yun at majority ng mga companies is MsOffice ang gamit...  baka in the next week, testing ko ulit mag OpenOffice, sa dami ng new versions sana ayos na yung issue... Smiley
