nang bumili kami ng 2 pc, winxp at msoffice 2007 na sya.  nagkaproblema kami sa sharing ng document files (word and excel) with these 2 pc dahil nga docx at xlsx na fileformat nila.  so, i change the default fileformat to .doc and .xls but it sometimes work and oftentimes it doesn't.  somehow, office 2007 insists on saving to its xml format even when the default file format was changed to the previous versions' format.  i still don't know what's up with that.  and the new ribbon interface needs a lot of adjustments.

on topic:  we are using both openoffice and msoffice (all versions since version 97).  I've installed openoffice on all pc (both linux and win32).  speaking as a full-time openoffice user since 2001 (staroffice, then openoffice beta), i find it easier to use openoffice compared to msoffice.

I had prepared ISO documents using openoffice writer and its bullets and numbering feature is a lot easier to use than msoffice and it's more smart, imho.  I had used openoffice calc to prepare spreadsheets with graphs and embedded formulas, formulas that feature conditional computation and formatting -- so easy to do with openoffice calc.

Although I agree with the sentiment that openoffice takes a long time to open documents, especially those multi-sheet Excel files but once it is open, it's smooth sailing.  And there's a work-around from that problem:

One suggestion though when using openoffice:  once you open and edit your office files in openoffice, it is recommended to save your file on the default ODF format to preserve all of your formatting and to make it faster the next time you open the file.

Through the years, I've seen the many improvements with openoffice: it opens file much faster now (5 seconds on P4 3Ghz, linux OS), the GUI is very familiar, usable and customizable, new features are available every release, the document format is an ISO-approved standard (long before MS XML format was approved), non-proprietary, and freely-available,  it opens all document-format i care to know, and of course, openoffice is free as in beer.

Learn about OpenOffice.org http://why.openoffice.org/
and be free from monopolistic oppression.

I have to try this also now. Grin  Thank you for the MESSAGE. Wink

seriously? Huh

Grin
