The UP Engineering Radio Guild will once again stage CarEEEr Talk 2009 - A Career Options Seminar and Mini Job fair for ECE, EE, and CoE students. This whole-day event is tentatively set on February 9, 2009 at UP EEE. To give you an overview of the event, this is the overview from last year's.
Please bear in mind however that this might not be necessarily reflect the topics for this year's career talk, but is along the same line as last years.OverviewThe Careeer Talk aims to provide an avenue for students to gain a perspective of how the field of electrical and electronics engineering manifests itself in the academe, government and industry. It not only presents job opportunities, but, more importantly, it also establishes fruitful relationships among the participating schools, companies and institutions.
ObjectivesCarEEEr Talk aims to
give students an overview of the different career opportunities in the field of electrical and electronics engineering
provide job opportunities to engineering students.
stress the importance of the academe and industry in the establishment of stable career paths for local student graduates, and in the pursuit of development in the country’s technology.
SeminarThe seminar will feature distinguished guest speakers from the academe and industry whose expertise and broad knowledge may enlighten the participants as to the careers they may take in the future. The topics they will be discussing, four of which will cater to specific career paths for EE, ECE, and CoE graduates are as follows:
AcademeStudying in UP EEE Graduate School
A representative from the UP EEE Department may promote the UP EEE Graduate Studies program, and may also inform the students of scholarship grants they could avail should they wish to enroll in the program.
Industry
Technopreneurship A celebrity entrepreneur or a representative from a budding company may talk of his humble beginnings, and talk of how his/her company became what it is now. This talk also gives an idea as to how it works in an alternative career opportunity like this; that which does not confine one to a hierarchically-organized workplace.
Special TopicsThese special topics will cover specific career opportunities for each of the three courses. Speakers from each field may recount his/her experiences in the work place, and may describe how it is to be in such an environment (i.e., how do communications engineers go about their day? What kind of research process do they employ? How many times do they try and fail a certain experiment or design? What advantages does that kind of career present?). These talks will include discussions on:
Communications Engineering
Semiconductor Industries in the Philippines
Software Development
Renewable Energy
The Manager Path This aims to present an alternative career opportunity whose focus is not on the development of products and solutions, but rather in the management of resources. The speaker may emphasize the importance of leadership and organization in the work place, and thus may encourage students with such skills to explore managerial jobs, where they are fully utilized.
Audience Targeted audience is graduating ECE, EE, and CoE students. Students in their 3rd or 4th years are very much welcome to attend. The expected attendance will be around 200 participants, with good representation from universities in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
