This is my 1st post here, so I first want to say hello to everyone. I am sure glad I found this message board.

I am an American living in Bacolod City, and I am sorry I don't read or write Tagalog.

What I am looking for here in the Philippines is a set of 4 good quality floor-standing tower speakers to use with a 2 channel audio hi-fi system. Unfortunatly, unlike the US, I can't just go on the internet and pull-up many many various brands of speakers and order them with a credit card for home delivery ... Google search got me nothing here in the Philippines ...  In fact, I don't even know where to purchase speakers for quality 2 channel hi-Fi audio.

Anyway, this is something like what I am looking for here in the Philippines:

Here is the system I had in the US ... A very old classic late 1970s Pioneer "Spec 1" pre-amp and a Pioneer "Spec 4" power amp. The music source was a Pioneer DVD/CD/MP3  player and four Polk Audio tower speakers with a large powered sub-woofer. I know I can't get this same equipment here in the RP, but if I could get a good sounding set of 4 tower speakers I would be happy.

I can purchase the amp in the US and have it sent over here in a balikbayon box, but do to the large size of the speakers, I really need to find some tower speakers here locally (I don't want Bose)  Smiley

Anyone have any ideas as to what speakers I could get here in the Philippines, and where I can buy them? .... I really don't want to go bankrupt buying tower speakers at a big 'mark-up' from what they would sell for in the US, but from what I have seen, quality electronic items are very expensive here compared to many other places in the world like the US, Hong Kong or Singapore, etc.

Thank you for any info,
Ron

Hello Ron,

Welcome to the forum!  Grin
There is a place in Quezon City where you can buy floor standing speakers.
I know you are in Bacolod, but you can always call them up first if you have any questions.
The name of the company is Audio World and look for Joey. He is a nice person and a
close friend of mine.

Audioworld Technology Inc.

Joey Lim
St Peter Quezon City,  1114 PH

tel# 742-6843

You have a nice piece of equipment.
A classic one  Grin Grin
I fix some of those when I was still there in the Philippines.

Thank's Danny ... I will give Joey Lim a call.

I found this company in Manila that makes speakers locally. The company is called Dai-Ichi. http://www.daiichi.ph/hifi.htm

Don't know how good they are compared to quality speakers you find in the US, but at least they are made here in the RP.

What suprises me is that they don't show what the Suggested Retail Price is for any of there products. The actual size of the speakers is not shown either, and it's hard to tell how big they are from a photo. And the website don't even tell you where to purchase them at (my guess is that you buy them direct from the factory)?

The speaker shown below from Dai-Ichi is not really what I am looking for ... The website says that the cabinet is finished in black vinyl which seems kinda cheap in my opinion, and I am really looking for a set of speakers that are not so "boxy" looking ... Thinner speakers like the photos I posted above.

Anyway ... Does anyone here know anything good or bad about these speakers?

Thank's
Ron

Hello Ron,

Dai-ichi is a good brand, but this is something that you cannot compare to B&W's or Wilson etc.
So if you are an audiophile or a type of person that is really into a performance then try
to look for a higher end ones.
For an everyday listening and average quality they are ok.
I don't know anything about the newer models. It's really been a while.
There are some stores where you can get those. Yo can call the company and
ask where is the nearest dealer close to your loacation. I'm sure theres a lot of them because they are popular there.
there are some members here that probably can give you some feedbacks regarding this one
specially the newer models.

Well after thinking about all this, instead of buying an amp in the US and having it shipped over here, I think I will buy locally a 100w/ch Onkyo A-9555 integrated amp. Nothing really special, but from the reviews I have read, it has pretty good bang for the buck, and seems to have good musical abilities.

The cheapest I have found the Onkyo A-9555 in the US is $485 delivered (22,500 pesos), but I have a feeling that it will cost alot more over here due to the high import taxes in the Philippines. I am going to call the Onkyo representitive in Manila and see if any company  here in Bacolod sells these amps ... Maybe I can also then find out what the cost of it is too ... Anyone here have this amp? And what did you pay for it?

I already have both a Pioneer DV-393 and a Pioneer DV-563A CD player, so either one of them should work just fine ... That just leaves the speakers ... I am going to keep looking for a set. I still like the idea of using 4 efficient floor standing speakers. I just don't want to spend too much money on over-taxed imported speakers.

I will hold off on buying a powered subwoofer ... The system may sound just fine without it.

The co-owner of Onkyo Philippines is Peter Co Falcis
he is my ex boss when I was still working from pioneer/onkyo service center.
I don't know their phone number now, but they are located in Quezon city.
somewhere in West Avenue.

Onkyo is a good brand. I think it is better to buy an amp there in
the Philippines. There are lots of places where you can get those gears.
Buy wisely Ron, make sure that you know what you are getting
so you will not regret it in the end hehehe Wink
