Here's my solution with your problem..

Let:

 x = 0
 y = 1

now..

   x^2 = xy         
  
we do little algebra..
 
 rationale:

  (x - y) (x + y) = y ( x - y)

 by law of algebra, we cancel least common denominator.. (x-y)

 therefore,

 (x + y) = y

Let:  x = 1 and y = 0

thus,

        1 = 0     (.. piece of cake)
