I noticed many are focusing on the tubes but you know the traffos are equally important.....Good pumasok si Tony. yan ang expert sa tubo and glad to hear sa traffo.  There are tubes in Raon, Watson, try Electromark and in the US RAdio Shack. Siguro, kung mag google lang tayo, marami.

My advice is to watch out for old tubes amps kahit wala na ang mga tubes. Yung traffo and mahalaga. All the rest can be replaced.  I have an AKAI tape recorder orig, 10W lang ata pero kalas na ang recorder. Yung ampli and tinago ko and one day, ilipat ko sa unified chassis.

Actually ang damng tube amp circuit sa Web...

Am a Senior Citizen, so you have an idea na inabot ko ang tube era. When I was 12, I bough a kit in the province of an MW and SW radio. I built it and it is stil with me. It has a small traffo input 220V and output 6V and 90V. Yung 6 para sa tubo, yung 90 sa B+. yung input pentode 6be6 etc... it has a triODE AND diode tube for detection and pre amp and a 6Av6 ata yung power amp. probably 3 watts. Over the years i tried many output transformers. GHumgana naman with varying distortions. pati 220V/6V traffo napagana .  In  tubes, the V is high, the current low. It is a voltage ampli while sa transistor, mababa ang V, mataas and current, kaya current ampli ang tawag minsan.

Sa US ako in 67, bumili ako ng speakers, dual coil. I built tube amps using 6bQ5 poer amps. I blew he magnets out! mYung panahon nuon, may professional rewinder sa Gagalangin Tondo. Nagpagawa ako dun. Gamit ko rin and 6BM8. Preamps are 12x7, 12au7, 12at7.

My Dad bought a console in 1965, National. I love this phono player. Nasa akin pa. It has one feature that is outstanding. It is called "Dynamic" and when you turn in on, all scratches from the record disappears. i have the circuit.

Came back 68 and i got in Raon a catalog, japanese, all tube amps. I still have it. Then the RCA manual. also have the ARRL 81,85,88.

Avesco had a store in Roosevelt years ago and b4 it burned down, pinakiao ko yung main traffo and the 2 outfput traffo. Pina chrome ko pa. I had a stainless steel chassis bent and they are mounted na. I have several 12ax7's and 2 new EL34 from Deeco. made in Russia. they were P400 each 6 years ago.

By the way, may murang de tubo sa Deeco ngayon. Less than P4k pero di ko alam ang cirkit.

Nagpaayos sa akin yung Dared ampli na tube semicom combo. I was surprised. Ang tubo ay ang preamp and finals IC! 15 watts lang pero maganda din sound. Murang gawin to. IC is plenty and tube is just 12ax7. No traffo sa output. Power supply traffo lang. Here is some tips:

For simple tube amp, you can use Deeco traffo for power supply. Buy 2 traffo say 220 in and 6 V out(of the right watts ). Join back to back sa 6V. Careful now cuz one 220 primary goes to wall, the other one in the second traffo wil be your b+. You haved 110V and 220V. PERO ISOLATED NA SILA(NO "ground" shock).  dun sa 6V junction kukuha ang power to light up the tube. kung hinde mahanap output transformer, use a 220/6V traffo as output.

Well, for those serious, I can give paid seminars in BF Homes, Pque on a weekend. Willing to give away schematics to attendees. YOU GOTTA BE SERIOUS.....

I DO NOT MAKE ANY CLAIM ON HI FI AMPS....THE BEST IS TONY AS I READ HIM POSTS...HE BUILDS AND MAKES TRAFFOS PA. SALUTE TO TONY...

i am almost a senior citizen in a couple of years.....i still have a copy of the Radio Amateur's handbook, 1960 edition with most of the pages missing, i loaned it out to a friend and i got soaked in the rain, good thing i was able to get most of it back...

then a few years back, i was able to download the "radiotron electronics designer's handbook" i can only drool over it in the 70's we had no money to buy books.....now it is free....

i still have hardcopies of RCA tube and transistor handbooks along with japanese transistor databooks....

Sakura AV200......it is not really a tube amp.....the power stage is a bjt transistor type, there are 2 5Z4 tube rectifiers supply +/-6 volts to an 3558 op-amp stage.....then there are 2 6n23 dual triodes used as a buffer running off +/-12volt rails....the tube buffers use only one half of each tube....

maloko talaga yung mga chinese designers......i was able to mod that amp to get rid of the 2 5Z4 tube rects, i sued those tube on a guitar amplifier instead.....

i am posting here so that the new guys can become interested and try to learn about tubes....we are getting old, sayang naman kung yung knowledge na nakuha natin all these years are lost....

Amen to you Tony....same here....that is why I adopted the theme Tis good to Share. Yun din and thinking ko, yung mga books, kapag ulianin na ako, bubulok sa suluk.  i just want to pass things on to the younger guys.....Coincidentally, the guy at Electromark who impressed us as knowing all the tubes was "Mang Tony". Learned he is gone..I knew soimething was fishy about that cheap tube amp, you are right Sakura nga.  To an innocent, he would think he is listening to a tube amp.....madaya talaga ang chekwa.

i totally agree, an output traffo made of ordinary iron will sound totally different from output traffo made of audio grade irons Cool

much even better is a bjt in class A driven by a tube pre-amp, my opinion Cool

i remember a thread over at pinoydvd, there was this CAyin power amp, owner is in the states btw, they (mga checkwa) nilagyan ng silicon rectifiers sa socket ng 5AR4 rectifier, push-pull classA KT88, so there and then you know that a single rectifier tube will not cut it, and so the silicon diodes......funny bussiness no doubt...... My Russian tube amp 6P3S_6N8S_6N9S

« Reply #29 on: January 06, 2012, 10:30:09 AM »

Tubes also got my attention....di ko ito pansin nun dahil di ko na inabot ang era nito, but when a friend gave me a hybrid luxman 103v i had encountered tube...6CG7's....also, when i look on other forums tubes are hot items and the most expensive amps....i got curious about this things so i decided to have one...i looked on ebay and tried the russians counterparts which are cheaper....first build ...Aikido preamp with passive tone control with 6n8s and 6n9s.....satisfied with the sound ...again decided to build one PP amp....still ongoing....now ordered bulk of tubes such as gu50,6p3s, etc....next thing......trafos'.....

I hope there will be trafo manufacturers or sellers locally for opt's and power  trafos at reasonable cost...
As Others said ..trafos are the most expensive parts especially if you order outside phils...shipping alone is costly...
There will be more DIYers if this are available locally...
2012........LETS Bring back the Tubes.....
