Use high quality coax cable since you will opearte at UHF band, cable loss is important. Use a 50 ohms cable, RG-8 type is ok, like Belden RG-213 or more expensive but low loss cable Belden 9913. As much as possible dont use RG-58 cable its a 50 ohms cable but not suitable for long line and UHF band, for mobile cable / use its good, keep it short.

Its ok to use external antenna for the portable transciever, also always check SWR of the antenna. also use of battery pack is ok. During normal power you can use regulated power supply too. For the external antenna if you will you use RG-8 type, a little bit hard to manage the portable coz coax is big you should use external mic for the portable, also not to give twisting on the bnc connector of the portable.

Yes, it is perfectly safe to use X50 on your receiver. But since Diamond X50 is tuned for vhf and uhf only, you won't get a 5-9 signal on the whole receiver band.

I just found out sa catalog na nabili kong Belden RG-58 8240 cable has a nominal impedance of 51.5 ohms while my Diamond X50 requires coaxial cable with 50 ohms imp. What effect/implications nito sa set-up ko? Tnx.

maliit lang na mismatch 'yan sir. for some applications, acceptable pa ang 75 ohms sa 50 ohms pero not common in practice dahil pwede namang humanap ng mas malapit.

You can still use that coax cable still minimal effect 50 & 52 ohms is not that much difference. It will still macth your X50, try minimize lenght because in most application that RG 58 is more suitable for mobile installation. Check your SWR in both band you use. Check what freq is usable with low antenna SWR ( standing wave ratio ) before you use the set up or antenna.

ROI, start witht he antenna. ang radiowaves ay parang ilaw. If light up a buulb walang reflector, it will disperse equally all around. If you "focus" the light such as in the flashlight, the light will get concentrated and focus and will light up a spot. Same thing with antenna. Kung "omni" yan such as a 5/8 co-linear, a ting ting, aan inverted J, open lamp yan. You must use a yagi which I used to build years ago. The books are still here. the more the element, the narrower the beam. Pero bingi kas sa likuran ng antenna. Trick is to have an omni tolisten in, then once you hear a faint contak, switch tothe yagi and hunt him down. You will need a rotator. Lahat yan I build. Free consultations. power supplies has limits on the transformer. To uipgrade a new transformer is needed but you can parrallel transformers or parallel PS to increase the capacity.
