sa Cebu, Lexmark may mga opening dati ng ECE with knowledge in Mechanical Objects i.e. Mechatronics Engineer. Grin

Manufacturing Engineering also almost tends to be fusion of Mechanical and Electronics with Management.

Now that my name has been mentioned, let me give my thoughts on this. First of all, one of my first job was for a pioneer in the Philippines in supplying automated equipment for the semicon industry. It was a long time ago and it is safe to say it was probably before most forum members here were born. And so I don't think it is a recent trend (if that's what the thread starter meant).

Secondly, IMHO, there isn't really a "Mechatronics Engineer" unless it's a designation given to you by your company. Another term I also hear is "Automation Engineer".  While it is true that an ECE or EE with knowledge of mechanical objects can be a "Mechatronics" engineer, A mechanical engineer with skills to design automated machines can also be the same. And in my experience, mechanical engineers with such skills are harder to find and so are more in demand and are offered better pay.

Third, sad to say, the pay (and the prestige) here Philippines isn't great and so many with such skills end up working overseas. Marami sa kasama ko are still overseas and probably permanently so.

afaik, the term is really for industrial automation.

Sometimes, components used in Building Automation and Industrial Automation are the same.

Profit margins in Building Automation products are higher than Industrial Automation products because of Aesthetics and other Architectural requirements.
