unahin mo muna  yung database part para sa grade and security.  Once you can access the database and get the info from another pc, madali na yung sms part.

cellphone ang gagamitin nyo attached sa PC? as for me mas ok ang GSM Module since this is ready na for interface sa PC..

you will need to construct your database for the grades and logs for the inquiries(optional ang logs)..

you do have to first familiarized yourself with AT Commands.. http://www.developershome.com/sms/

GSM Module/Cellphone, SIM Card and its Interface Cable ang kailangan mo dito..

anong language ba gagamitin mo para sa software mo?

if you are going to use VB 6.0 then you have to use MSComm for serial interface, inorder for you to communicate with the GSM modem serially..

inorder for you to talk with the GSM Modem you have to learn and identify which AT Commands that you are going to use with your said project/thesis

start to make simple interfacing first before implementing other things like Database...

gawa ka ng textbox wherein you will put your recipient number and text message then a button for send...

and also for the reading the new messages.. you can issue a read command from time to time or just wait for the GSM Modem send you a Notification (+CMTI) if there is a new message =)

i suggest you to use a GSM Modem instead..

about sa storage.. you can always check it by accessing it... or have a backup copy of it in your PC and then delete all the stored messages in your SIM..

you can always check the signal from the GSM Modem through [AT+CSQ] command.. then you can put some notification sa PC Side/Logs...

@cliff, yup gagana.. but i havent tried to to use it as an alternative, also consider to check your phone's Supported AT Commands, though supported naman yung mga common,, it depends upon your needs pa rin naman.. if you are going to use a phone, i suggest you must do some practice in interfacing it with your PC.. you will need a data cable for this..

Regarding sending text (grades) using a cellphone please po check dito,
http://www.electronicslab.ph/forum/index.php/topic,13265.new.html#new
And I tried it using the Globe Tattoo's USB HSDPA Modem and it works great.
But I still don't have a clue to read messages using VB6. I've been searching google pero wala pa rin ako nakitang completong codes.
Master ┌[٠KaiZeR]٨[gigz09٠]┐ may idea ka ba nito? Maraming sa salamat po master..

same lang sya using cellphone/ GSM Modem..
http://www.electronicslab.ph/forum/index.php/topic,8235.0.html

syempre you have to identify first which COM port lumitaw ang GSM Modem mo.. =)

study MSCOMM... you will probably use VB6's string functions. http://www.vb6.us/tutorials/vb6-string-functions
