Hello Everybody. I'm known as WL7JS/DV1 and I typically monitor the DX1HB repeater, as being my "home channel". I'm unaware of what repeaters are still operational and if I can access them.

When I started off with Amateur Radio, back in 1993, I was heavily active in Packet Radio, and rarely spoke voice on my radios. Nowadays, I am not finding any packet radio stations, or even APRS stations in Metro Manila. I operated Packet Radio in Metro Manila during the 1993 Christmas season.

Nowadays, it seems that I'm the only active amateur radio operator in Metro Manila. I got working transceivers (FM: 2m/70cm only) and rarely using them for talking on. My transceivers are always prepared for emergencies. (When Typhoon Ondoy struck, I could not reach any amateur radio operator!)

Since March 2010, I've been working with Microcontroller-based projects. I would like to interface with my Amateur Radio equipment, but, unlike my past in the USA, I have no other amateur radio station to have digital QSOs (Packet Radio and/or APRS).

It is now the "rainy season" here, and last year's rainy season brought a typhoon that flooded my home and we lost electrical power for five days! I'm wondering how many amateur radio operators in Metro Manila have packet radio/APRS capability, and if they can operate during power outages. Both digital systems are more reliable than SMS computer servers and GSM towers. It would be great is PAGASA alerts were coming through APRS..

Hi WL7JS/DV1....I understand how you feel...a bit of advice.....there are more bootleggers around here who are good natured than the most amateurs you have ever met or dealt with.......
