How x10 works (http://www.smarthomeusa.com/info/x10theory/#theory).

In the US there's this X10 protocol they use for home automatic using power lines.  However, most x10 devices are only for 120V operations.

Anybody here knows how to design X10 devices suitable for 220V/60Hz for the Philippines?

Maganda kung meron dito sa elab na makagawa ng prototype man lang and then we can build more technologies on top of it.  From simple hardware,  up to touch screen based or even browser based home automation control.

agree... when i saw some home automation gadgets na ginagamit sa U.S. naamaze ako kc sobrang layo n nya sa iniisip ko... im sure kaya yan ng pinoy...

Try mo isolation transformer....110:220

Theory:
X-10 transmissions are synchronized with the zero-crossings on the AC power line. By monitoring for the zero-crossings, X-10 devices know when to transmit or receive X-10 information. A binary ‘1’ is represented by a 1 ms long burst of 120 kHz, near the zero-crossing point of the AC. A binary zero is represented by the lack of the 120 kHz burst. The timing diagram is as shown below.

The advantage of X10 is that there are readily available appliance and lights in the market that one could just plug and play without making any gadget.

The main problem of X10 is that there is no "feedback" or acknowledgement of the controlled device if it receives the control message.  This is susceptible to noise and missed commands.  This is fine with lights control for one could see a visual feedback and the user may just press again the switch to turn it on.

trust me on this, there are times na it won't respond kahit nag
send ka na ng command. reason can be a lot of things
halimbawa may naka plug kang plantsa or TV
nde gumagana ang x10 ko completely as in wala, badag, ayaw palpak

SMPS and X10 do not mix, hehehe

pero for educational purposes ok na din pagaralan ang X10 kasi very simple sya.

ang nakita ko lang sa cdrking is yung Power Over Ethernet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_over_Ethernet).  Basically using power lines for ethernet pero wala ata akong nakita sa cdrking na for home automation talaga.

Ano na ba bago at better way for home automation?

Nakaka enganyo kasi itong X10 kasi ang mura nya sa US (http://www.x10.com/promotions/rca_kit_0605.html).  Di nga lang pwedeng gamitin dito.
