from wiki  http:// en.wikipedia.org / wiki / Digital_Signal_3 ,

" A Digital Signal 3 (DS3) is a digital signal level 3 T-carrier. It may also be referred to as a T3 line.

    * The data rate for this type of signal is 44.736 Mbit/s.
    * This level of carrier can transport 28 DS1 level signals within its payload.
    * This level of carrier can transport 672 DS0 level channels within its payload. "

pwede ko po bang malaman if anu ung overhead ng DS3 para ma pro-prove ko na 44.736Mbps ung bit rate ng DS3?

example:
overhead for DS1 is 8kbps; 24 DS0's
8kbps + (24*64kbps) = 1.544Mbps

overhead for DS2 is 168kbps; 96 DS0's
168kbps + (96*64kbps) = 6.312Mbps

ung overhead ng DS3 is 1.368Mbps; 672 DS0's
1.368Mbps + (672*64kbps) = 44.376Mbps
which is not 44.736 Mbps

i just followed this link
http://www.globalspec.com/reference/10505/121073/Chapter-6-1-11-Digital-Signal-Service

replies are appreciated

Each frame of DS3 is composed of  28 DS1 frame + 188 additional signalling and control bits. Each frame of DS1 contains 193 bits, thus DS3 rate is 8000*((28*193)+188) which is equal to 44736000 bps. As to the specifics of the additional signalling and control bits, I don't have information right now. Mas familiar ako sa SDH and European PDH systems. I hope this helps.

Edit: Just remember that in multiplexing to higher hierarachial level, we multiplex the preceding level to form the higher level. Not the basic rate (DSO) as in your computation, thus the missing bits.
