good anti-virus for netbook

 anu ba magandang antivirus for netbooks na hindi "mabigat"? IM currently using kaspersky 10 for the moment...

ako meron din, last month... si misis mostly ang gumagamit. nilagyan ko lang ng usual na setup ko sa desktop. antivir(free). working fine, at di naman nagrereklamo!

hi rafft.
i'm using a netbook (eee 1000he) as my main pc both at home and office.
i dual boot between xp and ubuntu 9.10.

for xp, here's the method i use to remain virus-free:

1) follow this tutorial on how to disable the autorun functionality

2) install and run this NoAutorun program.  It will install itself on your system tray and provide a "scan before open" functionality for your thumbdrives and other removable media.

3) download and install the free Comodo Firewall and Antivirus, then enable the "Stealth Settings".  This firewall is light years better than XP's built-in firewall.

4) install and use only Firefox.  Uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader and install Foxit Reader.

5) upgrade to the latest Internet Explorer

6) it is recommended but not necessary to install Avira Antivir.  You need this for your weekly or monthly virus scan. Although Comodo antivirus is reliable, it doesn't have "cleaning" ability for infected files: it only quarantines or deletes infected files.


Rationale:

Step 1 & 2 protects you from viruses/worms from usb storage, cd/dvd, and external harddrive.

Step 3 (with the Stealth Settings enabled) protects you from network-based viruses and worms.

Step 4 & 5 plugs security hole in your OS.  You need to upgrade to the latest internet explorer even though you won't be using it because if a software is hardwired to use IE and it tries to access the internet, you'll get owned if you're still using old buggy IE.

Step 6 allows you to clean infected files. Antivir's online scanner is quite effective in preventing drive-by infection while browsing the web.

bagong reformat lang ito kasi kagabi, ayaw magconnect sa WEP(na encrypted//may PW) ...ngayun fresh install ok na... winXP SP2 OS ngayun.. datin rin naka install ang COMODO dito.. for PDF reading I use the OLD version Adobe Acrobat Reader (ver5).. ok lang din ba ito?

and firefox user ako, even sa desktop ko.. di nako gumagamit ng IE since.. hehe

eset nod antivirus kung antivirus lang.
pag security suite, norton 360 o nis2010 ang maganda pero alang available na full crack.
maganda rin ang kaspersky internet security 2010 pero may performance effect sa netbook.

i think you can still download the latest IE even if you're using non-genuine OS.

But if you cannot, you may always use the better browser.
You can play youtube with Mozilla Firefox.
