I'm having problem with Tacens Supero 700 watts power supply. I recently brought 7 pcs for my client and within 2 months of usage, i already replaced 3 of them (Good thing may warranty). The two can't turn ON while the last is a total mess. Nasunog ang input side then the attached UPS with built in AVR have blown fuse.

Prior to the 7 pcs i recently assembled for them, i assembled 4 PC and i used Gigabyte Superb 720 power supply without any problem at all. All the PC i assembled for them (7 plus the previous 4) have the same specs:

Intel i7 860/870
1 Tera Western Digital (1x)
Samsung DVD writer (1x)
4Gig Mem
Asus P7P55D LE MBD

My Tacens supplier inform me that there's probably a compatibility issue with my UPS with built in AVR. UPS is Instek 600VA.

As of now, i temporarily installed a Generic PS (Orion 600 watts) on the affected PC w/o any noticeable problem (still observing) while waiting for the replacement Tacens.

Is it adviseable to buy an external AVR (as proposed by my supplier)?
Para kasing overkill na eh.
Any advice from our forumers esp Tacens brand user here or is there really an issue with Tacens that i'm not aware of?
As observed, mukhang hindi gaanong well designed ang input side circuitry ng tacens at masyadong sensitive sa line flactuation. Wala namang problema sa iba...

Baka yung batch na nakuha mo lemon batch.  I'm using a TACENS 600W and more than 1 year na rin at ok pa naman.

It's not a good idea to put an AVR on these newer PSU's with active PFC. They are designed to work from well below 110VAC to about 240VAC. It is likely the PSU is experiencing over-volrage surges and not under-voltage. And this is probably what is destroying them. These active PFCs circuits may also have a problem with some UPS and their sine wave generation circuits.

If it is true that the Tacens is a rebadged FSP PSU then I am not a fan of the Tacens/FSP design. I used couple and one of them broke just a month after warranty expired. It destroyed a Gigabyte motherboard with it.

I opened the unit. Unlike other PSUs that power down the entire PSU if you turn OFF the switch, the switch on the FSP works after the active PFC. The circuit is semi-live even if you turn OFF the switch.

Hmmm..nice input sir motion....siguro nga because tacens have active PFC (Power Factor Correction) so what is your suggestion sir?? remove the PC from outlet when not in use? connect directly sa AC Line and use an ordinary surge suppressor equipt extension?

Yes, best is to disconnect the PSU when not in use and substitute a line filter/surge/over-voltage protector for the AVR. Connect the surge protector after the UPS.

Buy a different PSU brand next time.
