Bipolar Transistors or Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJT)
terminals:Base,Emitter,Collector
types:
NPN
PNP

Unipolar Transistors or Field-Effect Transistors (FET)
terminals:Gate,Source,Drain

1. JFET

N-Channel
P-Channel

2. IGFET aka MOSFET

Depletion Mode MOSFET

N-Channel
P-Channel

Enhancement Mode MOSFET

N-Channel or NMOS
P-Channel or PMOS

Combi of NMOS and PMOS are CMOS (Complementary MOS)
or Pull-Up (PUNs) or Pull-Down (PDNs) network of PMOS and NMOS

Adannel, on your next question on how to identify the terminals:

Set you tester to RX1. Read the resistance between pins. For Japanese transistors, A and B are PNP, C and are NPN. hanapion mo yung Base pin and you will know it if by touching  it with either probe and gettting a similar reading touching the 2 remaining pins. (it's either GO, G) or NO, NO). Go meaning the tester swung right, No means very high resistance between the pins. If you do not these reading, move to the next pin and do the same.  you see, the base is common to the Emitter and the collector. Now, after  you have identified the Base, check the resistance between the E and C. Dapat very high. You will note that the GO, Go and the No, No can be reversed by exchanging the probes.  One is PNP, the other is NPN. Kumuha ka ng known NPN and see which probe in the base (black or red) gives a GO, GO. Lahat ang NPN ganoon.

Di mo parin malaman which is the C and E. Pag NPN, negative ground. Pag PNP postive ground.  Yung Sanwa and Sunwa testers may HFe setting, di ba? Yun!, yung clip ata para sa Base and the two probes para sa C and E. Mabasa mo ang Beta or amplifiaction factor ng transistor.

After you have learned all these elementary, you just buy an inexpensive digital tester na may transistor socket dun. Ma identify and pins at mabasa ang Beta.

If you are from the South near BF Homes, Pque., come and see me. 54 Jaime Laya St. If you are in QC, I go to Katipunan weekends. I have these inexpensive digital testers for P250 and P450(bigger and can check capacitance with auto off). I will give you free lessons/demonstration.

pag digital tester ang gamit mo, mas mataas ang reading ng base-emitter sa base-collector.
