This is done using convergence of the roots.

For example: solving sqrt(x) is done by repeatedly solving -> answer = 0.5(x/last_answer + last_answer).
Assume 1 as initial value:
sqrt(2) = 0.5(2/1 + 2) = 1.5  --> (is the last answer, this will be used as the value in the next iteration)
0.5(2/1.5 + 1.5) = 1.417
0.5(2/1.417 + 1.417) = 1.414 --> Answer to sqrt(2).

Hope this helps and answer your question.

Another example is the Newton's Method.

Sir, constant po ba ang 0.5?
