The XMCStor provides one front removable drive and one internal drive for maximum operational flexibility. Drives may be addressed as combined or separate volumes depending on their usage and application requirements. The front removable drive capability combined with hot swap allows fast and easy equipment upgrade and data transportability. With board level data transfer rates up to 130 MB/sec (write) and 140 MB/sec (read), the 9289 XMCStor is ideal for applications demanding high data rates.</p>
<p>Current storage capacities equal 64 GB across two drives, with higher capacities supported as new drives are introduced. Targeted for military and industrial applications in rugged environments, the XMCStor is capable of meeting a wide range of operating conditions. It is available in standard (0°C to +55°C) through extended temperature (-40°C to +85°C) versions and can withstand operating shock up to 40 Gs at 11 Msec. For added reliability, the unit can be conformally coated.</p>
<p>Elma provides XMCStor software support and drivers for Linux, VxWorks and Windows with specific versions and host cards available upon request. The XMCStor conforms to the VITA 42.3 mezzanine module form factor. The XMC form factor with PCIe connectivity makes the board an ideal solution for VPX systems or any host environment with PCIe capability. Units are sold separately or as part of an Elma AppliPak solution when bundled with a host single board computer, operating system and driver integration.</p>
<p>Pricing for the new 9289 XMCStor starts at $800 in low quantities, configuration dependent. Delivery is six to eight weeks ARO.</p>

<h2>More About the ADM3054 CAN Transceiver</h2>
<p>The ADM3054 is a 5 kV rms signal-isolated CAN physical layer transceiver that fully complies with the ISO 11898 CAN standard. The new CAN transceiver leverages Analog Devices’ highly regarded iCoupler® digital isolator technology and combines a 3-channel digital isolator with a CAN transceiver in a 10 mm x 10 mm single-surface-mount, 16-lead, wide-body SOIC (small-outline IC) package.</p>
<p>The ADM3054 complements ADI’s previously released isolated CAN products, the ADM3052 and ADM3053, which provide power isolation in addition to signal isolation. The ADM3054 is targeted at applications where an isolated power rail already exists or an additional overwind from an existing isolation transformer can be used. The device’s logic is powered with a single 3.3-V or 5-V supply on VDD1 while the bus side uses a single 5-V supply on VDD2 only. Loss of power on the bus side (VDD2) can be detected by the mico-controller using the integrated VDD2SENSE signal. The transceiver has integrated +/-36V fault protection on the bus pins, CANH and CANL, to guard against shorts to power/ground in 12- V and 24-V systems. The device also has current-limiting and thermal-shutdown features that protect against output short circuits and situations where the bus might be shorted to ground or power terminals.</p>
<p>The ADM3054 creates an isolated interface between the CAN protocol controller and the physical layer bus. It is capable of running at data rates of up to 1 Mbps and is fully specified over the industrial temperature range of −40˚C to +125˚C.</p>

<p>To achieve best-in-class low-power and wireless optimizations, Silicon Labs’ F96x and Si102x/3x families offer three major system-level innovations:</p>

<li><strong>Superior energy transfer efficiency for battery-operated systems. </strong>Greater efficiency in transferring energy from the battery results in less energy lost as heat dissipation, which reduces system-level power consumption and extends battery life. The F96x and Si102x/3x families’ on-chip dc-dc buck converter enables significantly higher efficiency in voltage conversion compared to a linear regulator, resulting in energy transfer efficiencies of up to 85 percent. The on-chip buck converter can supply up to 250 mW of power, providing energy not only for the MCU but also for other circuits in the system such as an RF transceiver. Silicon Labs is the first semiconductor company to integrate a power-saving dc-dc buck converter on an MCU, resulting in not only superior energy efficiency but also lower component count and BOM cost.</li>
<li><strong>Reduced time in active mode. </strong>Since MCUs use maximum power in active mode, the F96x and Si102x/3x devices incorporate several innovations to reduce the time spent in active mode. An on-chip Dedicated Packet Processing Engine (DPPE) with hardware acceleration blocks enables more than a fivefold increase in RF message processing speed and allows the CPU to remain idle during transactions, thereby reducing active time and the current load on the battery. The MCUs also include a low-power pulse counter that operates autonomously in sleep mode without CPU intervention. The on-chip pulse counter is especially useful in reducing power in utility metering applications that use pulse trains or switch closures while monitoring fluid flow.</li>
<li><strong>Reduced power in sleep mode</strong>. The new MCUs integrate the lowest power real-time clock (RTC) in the industry, enabling 40 percent lower power in sleep mode than competing MCUs. The MCUs achieve 400 nA sleep current with the RTC running and 70 nA sleep current (without the RTC) at 3 V. An ultra-low 10 nA sleep current mode is additionally available at minimum voltage. The MCUs also offer the industry’s fastest wakeup time from sleep mode at 2 microseconds. As a result of these state-of-the-art low-power design techniques, systems based on the F96x and Si102x/3x families can support battery life greater than 20 years.</li>

<p>XP Power today announced the EMH250 and EMH350 series of highly efficient single output 250 Watt and 350 Watt AC-DC power supplies. Meeting the IT equipment safety specifications of UL/TUV/EN 60950-1 and the stringent medical safety standards of UL/TUV/EN 60601-1 the EMH series suit a broad range of information technology, industrial, medical equipment and surgical life support applications. All models are also BF rated.</p>
<p><img class="alignleft" src="http://www.xppower.com/products/EMH250-350pr.jpg" alt="EMH250-350" width="175" height="245" />Both the EMH250 250 W and the EMH350 350 W series have an extra wide input range of 80-275 VAC and are available in four output models covering the nominal voltages of + 12, + 18, + 24 or + 48 VDC. A trim function allows adjustment of the output voltage to within +/- 10% of stated nominal. A +12 VDC / 0.6 A fan supply is also provided across the range. In addition, the EMH350 series includes a +5 VDC / 2.0 A standby supply. Unlike many competitor models, full power is available from low input voltages of 90 VAC and the unit does not derate until +50 degrees C operating temperature. Measuring just 76.2 127 x 36.3 mm (3 x 5 x 1.43 inches), these industry standard format units require only 12 CFM of forced airflow in order to deliver the full output power. An optional top mounted fan is available across the range, and the EMH350 has the additional option of a variable speed fan that is dependent on the unit’s operating temperature.</p>
<p>The EMH350 series is also available with an optional ORing diode circuit that allows for current sharing in N+1 redundancy configurations. This series provides customers with the choice of either analogue or digital control options. The analogue signals provide Power Fail, Inhibit and Current Share. Digital signals and controls are accessible using PMBus compatible commands.  The EMH series is available from Farnell, Newark and element14 approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power and come with a 3 year warranty.</p>

Integrated Device Technology, Inc. The new devices replace traditional quartz crystal-based oscillators (XOs) for up to 75% power savings in any of a broad range of applications requiring a ±50 ppm timing reference, including computing, communications, and consumer markets.<img class="alignleft" src="http://www.idt.com/content/IDT_Crystalfree_web.jpg" alt="IDT CrystalFree CMOS Oscillators" width="270" height="216" /></p>
<p>IDT’s new 3LG family of CrystalFree CMOS oscillators guarantees ±50 ppm lifetime frequency accuracy. They are pin-to-pin compatible with existing quartz-based solutions, making the transition to a CMOS-based oscillator and the resulting power savings a seamless proposition. The devices support low-voltage-differential-signaling (LVDS), low-voltage positive emitter-coupled logic (LVPECL), and host-clock signal level (HCSL) standards for compatibility in a variety of applications. IDT’s 3LG devices are designed using a standard silicon manufacturing process and are offered in industry-standard plastic packaging, resulting in lead time, reliability, and cost of ownership advantages over crystal oscillators. The 3LG family leverages the fundamental technology of the successful 3CN family of ±100 ppm products that are in volume production today.</p>
<p>“The transition away from quartz-based oscillators has begun. As the world-leader in silicon timing solutions, we continue to develop high-performance, low-power solutions to meet the needs of the market,” said Fred Zust, general manager and vice president of the Communications Division at IDT. “Quartz-based oscillators have drawbacks in power, cost, availability, and reliability. IDT’s CrystalFree oscillators save up to 75% power versus their quartz-based counterparts, and also offer undeniable benefits for design simplicity, short lead times, and phenomenal reliability.”</p>
<p>“The semiconductor industry is moving forward at a rapid pace, but one thing that has remained unchanged for the last 50 years is the use of quartz crystal as the primary frequency source for electronics. To date, semiconductor-based frequency control products have not had the accuracy needed to challenge the incumbency of quartz in production systems,” said Sergis Mushell, principal research analyst at Gartner. “With superior pricing and performance versus crystal-based solutions, these semiconductor-based frequency sources will have a significant impact on the crystal oscillator market.”</p>
<p>The new devices generate stable frequencies up to 125 MHz and offer high-performance phase jitter of less than 1 picosecond over the wide frequency offset of 12 kHz to 20 MHz. In addition, semiconductor-grade shock and vibration resistance provides extreme reliability over the lifetime of the device, while the ultra-small, low-profile packages conserve valuable board area in compact designs.</p>

The IDT 3LG CrystalFree ±50 ppm oscillators are currently sampling to qualified customers. The IDT 3CN CrystalFree ±100 ppm oscillators are in full production today, available in industry-standard packages. The ISL29033 is an integrated ambient and infrared light to digital converter with I<sup>2</sup>C (SMBus Compatible) interface. Its advanced, self-calibrated photodiode array emulates human eye response with excellent IR rejection. The on-chip 16-bit ADC is capable of rejecting 50Hz and 60Hz flicker caused by artificial light sources. The lux range select feature allows users to program the lux range for optimized counts/lux. Power consumption can be reduced to less than 0.3μA when powered down.<br />

<p>The ISL29033 supports a software and hardware interrupt that remains asserted until the host clears it through the I<sup>2</sup>C interface. The function of ADC conversion continues without stopping after interrupt is asserted.</p>
<p>Designed to operate on supplies from 2.25V to 3.63V with an I<sup>2</sup>C supply from 1.7V to 3.63V, the ISL29033 is specified for operation over the -40°C to +85°C ambient temperature range.</p>
