NXP unveils industry’s first certified LIN 2.1 transceiver

NXP Semiconductors, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, today announced that its TJA1021 transceiver is the industry´s first to be certified according to the recently established LIN 2.1 specification, reaffirming NXP´s leadership position in the automotive networking market.

A safe and comfortable automotive driving experience requires reliable communication between electronic control units within the car, making certification of core electronics components vital. As the market´s first certified LIN 2.1 compliant transceiver, the TJA1021 was tested against new criteria released in October 2008. LIN 2.1 represents the next evolution of the Local Interconnect Network standard and incorporates new criteria including enhanced transport layer criteria, addition of diagnostics and backwards compatibility.

“NXP is committed to providing our customers with solutions that meet the industry´s latest requirements and standards. We underline this with the certification of the TJA1021,” said Toni Versluijs, Senior Director and General Manager of CAN/LIN Transceiver business at NXP Semiconductors.

The NXP TJA1021 brings new levels of energy efficiency and component cost reduction to the company´s LIN transceiver portfolio. The TJA1021 sets a new standard in ESD performance with 8kV HBM and 6kV, in accordance with the IEC 61000-4-2 standard. This level of performance enables manufacturers to build electronic control units without incorporating external ESD protection, thus reducing overall system costs.

The NXP TJA1021 transceiver features:

excellent ESD performance enabling reduced component cost low sleep current, low leakage current and low operation voltage, that contributes into reduced power consumption and less CO2 emission in the car ultra low sleep power consumption that will significantly reduce the battery drain when vehicle is parked. low operation voltage down to 5.5V that will make the device a candidate in engine start related applications such as start stop that can help to further reduce CO2 on the system level

G-Link® Wireless Accelerometer Node

Combining MEMS accelerometers with MicroStrain’s award-winning Micro Datalogging Transceiver systems, G-Link® is a high speed, triaxial accelerometer node, designed to operate as part of an integrated wireless sensor network system.

Featuring 2 KHz sweep rates, combined with 2 Mbytes of flash memory, these little nodes pack a lot of power in a small package. Every node in the wireless network is assigned a unique 16 bit address, so a single host transceiver can address thousands of multichannel sensor nodes.

The bi-directional RF communications link can trigger a sample to be logged from 70 meters, or request real-time data to be transmitted to the host PC for data acquisition/analysis. The frequency agile system enables simultaneous real-time streaming from up to 16 nodes in the 2.4 GHz range.

Available in 2g or 10g range, these small, fast, wireless accelerometers can be used to monitor tilt and vibration in a wide range of machines and structures.

A Software Development Kit is available, which includes fullycommented source code and a compiled executable for Microsoft® Visual Studio C++ .NET 7.1, Microsoft® VB 6.0, Microsoft® VB.NET 2003, Microsoft® VB.NET 2005 and LabVIEW® 7.1.

Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces its /PR family of ruggedized, plastic-encapsulated devices for high-reliability military and aerospace applications. Designed and fabricated for applications that demand high-temperature performance and enhanced reliability, /PR devices are 100% burned-in for 120 hours at +135°C and tri-temp tested at military temperatures. Additionally, for military and aerospace applications, these /PR products have the traditional Sn/Pb finish. These devices thus provide cost-effective solutions for electrically stressful environments, such as mobile military and aerospace systems.
